May 21st and 22nd: Meeting in Gent
One of the attractions of visiting historic cities is the experience to actually feel the past and get in touch with past generations. Challenge is to offer such an experience – based on a combination of the really old, authentic and preserved heritage and virtual ‘real life’ impressions of life in the city in former times. Portico partners want to invest in the development of techniques which allow to “travel in time”, through the past and future of NWE. For this Communities iof Practice (CoP's) are created tot explore the state of the art of new techniques creating virtual relities and possibilities to "travel in time".
The two last CoP's on this subject will be organized in Gent on May 21st and 22nd. The results of the studies and discussions will be published.
COP 1 meeting in January 2013 in Cologne
On 22 and 23 January 2013, a meeting of representatives of the COP (Community of Practice on Knowlegde) will be held in Cologne for the second time. The aim of these meetings, which are being held within the framework of the knowledge Work Package of the EU PORTICO project, is informed exchange concerning experiences, challenges and solutions to problems.
Central to the meetings are lectures, discussions and questions on the following topics:
- Archaeology friendly building techniques – Ultralight building
- Conservation and presentation in situ (climate, salts and archaeological profile)
As well as the responsible persons from the partner cities, the participants will also include outside experts, who in addition evaluate the findings from the respective regions.
